Faculty Aide Program
The Faculty Aide Program has introduced thousands of students in all concentrations to research. The program encourages professors to hire undergraduate research assistants and helps them find interested students, if they do not already have a student in mind.
The Faculty Aide Program provides half a student's wage, with the professor or academic department paying the other half. The program has two award periods, term-time and summer, and faculty are only one award per faculty member. As opposed to other programs and funding sources, Faculty members, rather than students apply for funding on a rolling basis beginning in September for term-time and in early May for the summer. Applications will be considered throughout the year if funding permits. Funding is generous for this program.
The Faculty Aide Program will match up to $1000 during the academic year and $1500 during the summer. Each student can earn up to a total of $2000 for the academic year and up to $3000 during the summer. Faculty members may hire up to two students during either award period. If hiring more than 2 students, a separate application must be submitted for approval by the Student Employment Office.
To participate in this program, Harvard faculty members apply to the Student Employment Office using the FAP application form. Applications will only be accepted once a student(s) has been hired. If you wish to hire a Faculty Aide but do not have a particular student in mind, you may post a Faculty Aide job description on the Student Employment Office Jobs Database. Refer to Eligibility and Procedures for detailed instructions.
