ESSAYS:  On separate sheets of paper, please submit the following:

1.      A statement of purpose describing your academic interests and possible career plans.  Please explain why MMUF is integral to your future academic goals and what you hope to get out of the experience and the community of fellows (2-4 pages double-spaced)

 

2.      A brief paper you have written for a class at Harvard (no more than 5 pages double-spaced).

 

 


ADDITIONAL MATERIALS: Please also submit the following with your application:

 

1.      Transcript, including your grades for the fall term 2007. (Please download your web report to include with your application with your name clearly printed on it, and also submit an official report from the Registrar, which may arrive later.)

 

2.      Resume, indicating your extracurricular activities and any honors or awards you have received.

 

3.      Two letters of recommendation, at least one from a professor who has taught you at Harvard and who could possibly serve as a faculty mentor to you if you are selected as an MMUF.  Letters may be sent directly to Meg Brooks Swift, Student Employment Office, 86 Brattle Street, Cambridge, MA 02138.

The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation plans to monitor the progress of the students they are funding in order to determine the effects of the fellowship.  They will be requesting that we provide information about the participant’s family background, pre-Harvard schooling and test scores, Harvard academic record and activities, and financial aid information.  Any reporting of the data by the Mellon Foundation will be in the aggregate with no reference to specific individuals.  Please indicate, by signing below that you will provide the requested information and that Harvard may release information about you from its records to the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.
